Xiaomi, the Chinese electronics company responsible for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 and others may be preparing to set the phone camera record with a 48-megapixel sensor. The release of the phone has been speculated to be in 2019. Xiaomi co-founder and president, Lin Bin posted some images that interestingly may have shown off the phone camera.
Lin Bin posted the photos on the Chinese social network Weibo. He did not however, give any details about the phone but only said that it would be released in January 2019. The images that were taken clearly show the ridiculously high megapixel count on the lens on the phone. The Xiaomi co-founder clearly wanted to show off the amazing new feature. Trying also not to be too vague about what he was trying to communicate, the text that came with the images was “48MP camera”.
The record
This new device would automatically become the smartphone with the highest megapixel count ever. This record could be set as soon as January. The Nokia 1020 is currently has the highest megapixel count with 41 megapixels. The phone was released back in 2013 and it has maintained that status since then. The Huawei Mate 20 Pro and P20 Pro both contained 40-megapixel primary lenses. These phone are the closest to the Nokia 1020.
Speculation on the Xiaomi Mi 9
Xiaomi recently moved to the UK where it released the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro. This was also the first time the company released phone out China. Announcements have already been made already been made that the Xiaomi Mi 9 will be released in 2019. A few peaks at the phone have shown that the phone in fact carries three cameras on the back and a small one on the front of the device. Speculations have been going around that the Mi 9 might be the device that carries the 48 megapixel camera but Lin never actually divulged the name of the device. Because of the variations in the concept of the 48 megapixel camera and the specs of the Mi 9 that were released, some people think the 48 megapixel camera might be new in an entirely new device.
